I love the library. Bookstores are fabulous, don’t get me wrong. But aside from the obvious free bonus of libraries, there’s just something special about them.
City libraries are my favorite. Especially during the week, when there are no special groups attending or scheduled storytime or workshop in progress. I love to, on the rare instances that I can afford the time, to walk slowly down each aisle.
If you engage all your senses at the library (as long as they don’t let moldy books become an issue!), you hear distant whispers and the rhythm of college students tapping away at the keys. It’s all muted and hushed.
I would find this very relaxing except that books are calling out on either side, ‘Pick me!’ ‘No, me!’
Is it any wonder that my kids all love reading too? I get great joy surprising them with unusual finds.
Sometimes they’re not interested, and sometimes they surprise me by how excited they get. My favorite moment last night? Sam excitedly repeating something he read in Game Programming. That, and they told me to hurry and get on making “The World’s Best Chocolate Pudding” found in the Starbucks book.
I hope you get a chance to explore the library at least once this month!
