Travel, Fires, Newspapers, and Cake—WEEKEND EDITION!

We’re on our way to the Pacific Coast!!!! I’m so excited! I’m praying that it’s good weather for many family fun moments, but even if it isn’t, I fully expect to be confronted with beauty, majesty, and wonder. During this weekend of traveling, I needed to keep the project to a bare minimum so no [...]

Squirrels and German Food

Okay, wait. That’s a REALLY weird title, isn’t it? It’s Squirrel Lovers Month! Seriously!  We used to live in the Midwest with a giant picture window facing a tree.  Yes, the tree filled the picture window making us wonder why there was a picture window there at all…. until summers. Because summer meant melting squirrels. [...]

What I’ve Learned: Week 3

My kids’ skit about How Real Monsters Trick or Treat is being featured on PopTarts right now.  Give it a click . We hope you can giggle with us.  If it wasn’t for Keeping Kids Creative Week, we wouldn’t have done this! This week I’ve learned that I’m calm in a crisis, and frantic AFTERWARDS. [...]

Smiles, Peanuts, Mayberry –Weekend Edition!

So I didn’t realize that today, Friday, is WORLD SMILE DAY in honor of the inventor of the yellow smiley face we all love so much.  On this day we are to do one act of kindness to make a person smile. It’s Sting’s birthday on Saturday. He’ll be 59.  My hubby & I think [...]

Unexpected

So, once again, given the Keep Kids Creative Week and our Newspaper Experiment, the kids amaze me at how ‘into’ our project they’ve been. My son sits next to me on the couch and tells me, “When I’m bored at school, I plan on doing something useful.” “Oh? What’s that?” “I’m going to do a [...]

October! Popcorn and Model T!

It’s October and I’m so excited, but I’m not quite sure why.  Maybe because I’m anxious to see what this part of the country looks like when Fall officially strikes.  We live in a desert region, and I’m not used to 92 highs and 36 degree lows within one day. Our house feels like a [...]

Baseball and Restaurants

I should be the world’s last person to speak of baseball, but I am, because that’s what we’re doing with the kiddos tonight. Babe Ruth set a home run record of 60 home runs in 1927 on this very day in history–not to be broken until Roger Maris in 1961, then Mark Mcgwire in 98, [...]

Blueberry Popsicle Month

Apparently, I somehow missed  National Blueberry Popsicle Day on September 2nd.  Although, reports are a bit conflicted. Some say it’s actually Blueberry Popsicle Month, and since that fits my agenda better, I’m going with that. I have decided that popsicle molds are the best things! I picked up one at Wal-Mart during summer and had [...]

Why You Should Keep Tabs on the Computer

You know how I went on and on about keeping kids creative, and that one of our projects was doing our own newspaper complete with comics? Well, I get a parental report about all the activity my children do on the computer. Which I highly recommend. This is what I found.
