Today is National Bike to Work Day. The point is to ‘Be One Less Car.’ We are lucky to live in a valley that has bike lanes everywhere you look. In fact, it really freaked me out when we first moved, because bikes are beside you (often passing you while you’re at a red light) frequently. In a subdivision with plenty of sidewalks, Sam learned the bike quickly. Now we’re on to Anabelle – who shows no interest. And honestly with scooters I’m in no hurry to push her.
Lower to the ground, easier to jump off of in an emergency, I see why they fill more bike racks in the school system than actual bikes. So, we’re celebrating National Bike to Work Day by riding scooters – hey, it’s still saving a car.
It’s also the international anniversary of the treaty of 1875 that established the International Bureau of Weights and Measures. We’re celebrating by making the kids log their bike/scooter mileage in meters. Kidding.
