I love the smell of homemade bread, which is a good thing since today is Homemade Bread Day!!!!
Although, this seems kind of mean to me, since this month is also Gluten-free Diet Awareness Month. I mean, come on, if people could have gluten they would cause, well, YUM!
That is why I thank God and The Mostess for the discovery of Udi’s Bread. The stuff actually allows our son to eat toast, sandwiches, and have bread to dip into soups. And, our Fred Meyer carries it! We’re also thankful for Quinoa pasta, Van’s frozen waffles, Kinnikinnick pizza crusts, and Betty Crocker GF cake mixes.
So there, you’re aware of some Gluten Free diet stuff.
But I’ll also share my favorite homemade bread recipe: BAGELS!!!
I use my handy dandy breadmaker that my friend (who sells beautiful jewelery) got me for ten bucks at a thrift store.
Throw all this in the breadmaker. Here ya go:
1 c. warm water
2 1/4 t. active yeast
1 1/2 t. salt
3 c. flour
Put the bread maker on dough setting and wait 1.5 hrs.
When it beeps, pull the dough out and shape it into 9 balls. Poke your finger through the center of the ball, and get your kids to come help make them into beautiful bagel shapes. It’s like playing with Play-Doh.
Let the bagels sit while you boil a pot of water. Throw in 2 T sugar into the water.
Put 4-5 bagels at a time into the pot. Boil 1-2 minutes on each side.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Bake 20 minutes.
Try to restrain yourself while they cool, so you can carefully slice them, toast them, and cover with them Philadelphia Cream Cheese. Oh, yum.
Get your son Udi’s Bagels so he can do the same thing too. After all, it’s Gluten Free Awareness Month!
